Goodbye Byron Bay!

Above is a video that Stacy’s friend Mike made of Byron Bay. I have spent three weeks in beautiful Byron Bay, but will be leaving today. I would love to come back here again one day!

Stacy and I are taking a bus to Mooloolaba Beach, located four hours north on the Sunshine Coast. We had originally planned to book a three day camping trip to Fraser Island, but the weather forecast predicts heavy rain and “gale-force winds” all weekend…so we decided that would be a waste of money. The weather is getting a bit shit here, it is colder and is starting to rain often! Yesterday Stacy and I did a hike on a trail near the lighthouse and got completely soaked in a downpour! We knew it was probably going to rain when we left, but we couldn’t leave Byron without doing this hike, which takes you to the most east tip of the country.

We will spend this weekend on the “Sunshine Coast” even though it probably won’t be very sunny after all. This is one of the main reasons we are both looking forward to heading further north. The weather in North Queensland is much better as it warmer and is in dry season. We will fly from Brisbane to Cairns on Tuesday. Cairns is the most well know town from which to explore the Great Barrier Reef.
